This year I was able to escape this frozen tundra for a blissful 10 days in Cabarete, Dominican Republic!!! My uncle is an avid kite surfer and both he and my aunt go to this lovely little town about half an hour car ride outside Puerto Plata every winter. It was everything I imagined and more. It royally sucked to come back to minus 30 celcius weather, but it was just the break my sun deprived, frozen self needed!!!! Here are some pictures from my beautiful 10 days in paradise!!!
It would not surprise anyone who knows me to see that my suit case is full of entirely black clothing.
We stayed in a lovely condo area called Ocean Dream... this condo was crazy beautiful! It had 3 bedrooms with full bathrooms for each, a huge common area with THE best couch EVER and a full kitchen.
Literally a 20 second walk from our front door was this path to the beach. We were about a mile (ish) down from Kite beach.
This was the view from the back porch. The white building behind the pool had THE BEST SPA EVER. I had the most incredible hot rock massage. I wanted to propose marriage to the masseuse.
This pool never had anyone in it. Granted, we are a literal spit to the beach, but it was always insanely windy at the beach, so when I wanted to read and not have sand blown in my face I migrated to this lovely little place.
*insert picture sitting by the pool with a good true crime book*
This was one of the restaurants on the beach. I went into town once the whole trip. You could walk up and down the beach and find super cool places to eat. Not a whole lot of shopping, but that was probably a good thing.
The kite club right beside our condo community.
Kite beach is down at the end.
Delicious Aloha. I miss your BBQ.
Busy windy day on the beach.
Other end of the beach.
More beach.
My uncle John kite surfing LIKE THE PRO HE IS. The following pics are just more of kite surfing.
Some adorable dogs on the beach. I contemplated stealing them.
Artistic surf board picture
Romantic beach chairs. Bow chica wa waaaaa.
Radical uncle John
Shit ton of kites
More kites.
The food was incredible. These fish tacos were from Gordiot's. Holy shit. I ate so many of these.
A delicious caprese salad at Aqua... This restaurant was attached to Millennium Condos. We ate there at least once a day.
Pizza from Aqua. OHM NOM NOM.
MY FIRST COCONUT ON THE BEACH. This was a bucket list thing for me. It wasn't as good as ice cold coconut water, but you bet your ass I drank the whole thing.
Mandatory selfie with coconut on the beach.
Mandatory feet in sand picture.
To my absolute fucking delight, there were tiny lizards EVERYWHERE. The only day I got a sunburn was the day I discovered this and chased them around the condo area for a good two hours. I wanted to take them all home.
The best picture I have of my tan... this was the morning after I got home! Spent the whole day with my animal children. Here is Atticus holding onto my for dear life. He would not let me put him back into his house all day. The fact that he missed me made me ugly cry.
