I am not keen on human children... they are fine as long as I am not responsible for them. As I have said 1000 times over, I like kids but I love sleep more. I know this sounds selfish, but I truly have no desire to reproduce. If anything, in the future if I do decide to have a family, I will adopt. My animals are my children!!!!
I have lived in a house with animals my entire life. There is something so soothing and welcoming about them. I adore their unique personalities and love spending time with every single one of them!
Growing up, I had cats, gerbils, hamsters, fish, mice, birds (LOTS OF BIRDS), rabbits, and many many more I cannot think of! This house has never been without a fur, feather or scale baby and I intend on keeping it that way!
Enough of my rambling on! Without further adieu, may I introduce Atticus Norbert Smaug and Daphne Clementine!!!!
<This handsome devil is Atticus. He is a 2 year old bearded dragon! I adopted Atticus off of Kijiji in November of 2012. I had wanted one of these little dinosaurs for years. I had a job in a mall for 3 years and every lunch hour, I would spend time in the pet store with a baby berdie that I fell madly in love with. I was devastated one day when I went in to visit my little buddy to find out that someone had purchased him!!!
Anyways... back to how I came to adopt Atticus! I was browsing Kijiji and I had contacted many of the people who were looking for homes for their beardies but for some reason, Atticus stood out to me (his original name was Mango). I brought him home Remembrance Day 2012 and I could not be happier with my adopted baby dragon son!
He is the sweetest, most snuggly, loving and adorable little dragon a mum could ask for! I spend at the very least an hour with this guy every day and he just brings me so much joy and happiness to my life!

He wasn't in the greatest shape when I adopted him. He had parasites, bowel problems, was under size, underweight and his husbandry was horrible. I spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on vet bills, medications, vivarium decor, lights and substrate until he had the ultimate dragon lair. I worked closely with his vet to make sure he made a full recovery and now he is thriving and the happiest, healthiest little bugger!
I highly recommend a bearded dragon to anyone and everyone that is interested in a reptile as a pet. The only thing I would say is that you HAVE TO BE DEDICATED TO THIS ANIMAL! Do your research, talk to a vet, get the husbandry right and socialize him or her every day! These are key to having a healthy, happy lizard! DO NOT GET AN ANIMAL IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO PUT THE EFFORT INTO THE RELATIONSHIP!!
<This pretty peach is my darling skinny pig Daphne! Daphnie Doodle is 1 year old and she came home September of 2013!
I have had 3 wonderful skinny pigs throughout my life. First was the sweetest little love named Kiefer. Kiefer came home in January of 2007. He was the most bizarre animal I had ever seen and I was immediately in love with his little pink spotted bum! Kiefer lived just before his 4th birthday. He had so many health problems because he was from the first generation of skinny pigs. They were breeding skinny with skinny and therefore not breeding out any health problems. We ended up having to put him to sleep after a short but sever battle with cancer. He had fused bones in both his back legs and needed assistance going to the bathroom. He needed to be bathed at least 2 times a week and adored out nightly snuggle time! (See bellow for pics of Kiefer!)
Next was my beloved Sheldon. Loosing Kiefer hit me incredibly hard. I cared for that pig almost 24 hours a day and I decided that I couldn't live without a little piggy.
We brought sheldon home on Halloween of 2010. He was feisty and absolutely crazy active! We slowly let him out of his home to explore the rest of the house and he very quickly became our house hippo! We would take the top cage bit off his house and he was free range until bed time! He was so involved with the family and all of our friends adored having little Shelly sit next to them while we sat around and chatted or played video games. He specifically adored my friend Chambers. (See bellow for pics of Shelly!)
Funny but horrible story... Sheldon had been home for literally days and Chambers picked him up and when Shelly squirmed he dropped him by accident. I was ready to murder him, but Shelly was fine and for some unknown reason, loved Chambers most of all after that.
Shelly lived a happy, full and active 3 years. One day, we let him out of his house and he fell. He had never fallen before. And then he ran smack into a broom. I immediately called the vet and rushed him to the hospital. He was cold and acting like he didn't know where he was. They took him back to see what was wrong and he had a heart attack. The amazing vets tried anything and everything to save him but it was too late.
My entire family was devastated. The vet equated it to a healthy runner who drops dead of a heart attack.
It took me a while to go out and bring home a new baby, but when I did, I found this crazy little princess!
Daphne came home August 2013. I decided that week that it was time to bring home a new baby and my nana and I went to 4 local pet stores looking for the right pig. I am always very conscious of the connection I need to have with an animal. I held probably close to 8 pigs that day and Daphne was the last. We went to 3 stores and I didn't feel a connection with any of the pigs. At lunch, nana recommended we go to a neighbouring town near us to a pet store there and see what they have.
We went back to the small animal section in this pet store and it was love at first sight!! I actually cried!!! I held this tiny pig and exclaimed "This is my new baby boy!" and the girl at the store said "well... she is kind of... ya know.. a girl" to which I responded "Well, I guess I have a baby girl!".
Daphne was my first female animal. I was so used to boys and it was a very strange bonding with her. She took quite a while to warm up to me. I worked every single day gaining her trust and love. Now, she literally cleans me and tries to feed me! She can be very moody and there are different aspects of her personality I have never experienced in a male, but do I ever adore my baby girlie!!
Skinny pigs are amazing pets! They are loving and relatively easy to care for! The only major difference between Skinnys and regular guinea pigs is that they have no hair (duh) and need to be bathed about once a week or 2 weeks (depending on their skin). They also need to be moisturized and if you take them outside, sunscreen as well! They also need a soft bedding as the usual wood chips will hurt their delicate skin and give them splinters!
They eat A TON and love lots of snuggles and play time! Again, IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO PUT IN THE TIME, DO NOT BUY AN ANIMAL! No matter what type of creature you want, you have to spend at least an hour a day caring of them. They need a good, stable home with lots of love!!!
<This is my darling Kiefer!
